Even Will and Samantha are faced with an ambiguous neighbor, Jeremiah, who threatens their safety right after they find each other. Food, gas and water are dwindling while the source of the apocalypse is never fully discovered. The next day Tom’s lung collapses, so Will has to perform a needle thoracostomy. Sensing Tom will die without medical help, they bond, and Will finally feels that Tom approves of him and Sam. On a bridge, they encounter a gang of armed men on motorcycles. They work together to evade the gang, but Tom succumbs to his wounds.
The movie’s last shot is literally the two of them running away in the car from a cloud of dust. Perhaps the strange symmetry in How It Ends lies with tragedy after triumph. That often when it comes to dark events nothing makes sense about them. In fact, the apocalypse begins after Will and Samantha find out the sex of their baby.

Casino Royale is easily one of the best Bond movies, a flick that redefined the character with more intense stakes and realistic action sequences. Sometimes you want a serious action movie with lofty goals; sometimes you want an action movie with a giant snake trying to eat Ice Cube and J. I’m not sure what it was but I pin it pretty much to the point when Tom dies. I’ve always liked Whitaker, although never really thought of him as someone who could carry a movie. I honestly didn’t feel that any of the rest of the cast had truly stood out, but this had been mysterious and interesting and even at times exciting, but with the death of Tom it descended to just plain silly. That ending that wasn’t intelligent or thought-provoking but that honestly just seemed truly lazy on the part of everyone involved with this.
