Here’s everything you need to know about Five Ten Trail Cross Mid Pro Mountain Bike Shoes. Find all the information it in this article.

Despite having a slightly different focus, the Trailcross LT still delivers that classic Five Ten tackiness, albeit in a slightly different package. The Five Ten Trailcross Mid Pro mountain biking shoe is designed with bikepacking and rugged trails in mind. They blend a durable, hiking-friendly build with a high-friction and pedal-friendly Stealth Phantom Rubber outsole. I’d hoped to receive the Trailcrosses in the rainy season, but Covid complications meant I wasn’t able to get feet into them until mud had mostly turned to dust. Because no, the Trailcrosses aren’t intended to be fully waterproof. The neoprene is even perforated, presumably for breathability.

In my opinion they looked better on screen than they do in real life. So when I sent them back the new pair were ordered in black. When regular use of your product over time results in mechanical or electrical failure. Add a little peace of mind to your purchase with a protection plan from EXTEND.

I’m not going to dive into the clipless v flat pedal debacle. After weaning myself off years of riding with SPDs, I’m completely sold on flat pedals, whatever kind of terrain I’m riding. When it comes to interface between the pedal and the tread, I’ve yet to try a shoe that’s a good as Five Tens and their celebrated rubber compounds – in this case, Stealth Phantom. Here, the circular lugs are more numerous than my old Freeriders – which Logan also tested a while back – and there’s also a series of horizontal ones at the toe and along the heel too.

Calling itself the “Swiss Army knife of jackets,” WORN TO BE WILD provides a wind- and water-repellent cotton shell with a host of bike-specific features. Due to the relatively minimalist design of this shoe, it is somewhat light on protective features. It does, however, have a rubber cap that protects the toes at the front of the shoe, although it doesn’t cover the vulnerable pinky toe knuckle. The heel pocket also has a nice reinforced feel that should help protect it from impacts. The TrailCross LT is a comfortable shoe with a performance fit. Overall, we found them to run a bit long , and also slightly narrower through the forefoot compared to most other shoes in the test, and definitely compared to other Five Ten models. That said, our testers with medium-volume feet were able to achieve a comfortable fit thanks to their supple mesh uppers, cushioned midsole, and minimalist protective features.

The lightly padded mesh tongue, thin laces, and even the perforated footbed also help to promote airflow, drainage, and quick drying. Because once I did wear them in – and their looks toned down a bit – the Trailcross Pros proved to be an extremely comfortable shoe, both on and off the saddle. Or boot, rather, though the neoprene cuff serves to cup the ankle and keep out stones, dust, and water, rather than provide much support. This sounds fantastic, but we’re not rating this shoe a perfect 10 because it’s too narrow at the front and there’s not a lot of support. Going up a size helps reduce pinching, but it’s a compromise, and the shoe still feels a little flimsy.

The Gear Index

When the ride is more about the adventure than the destination, these adidas Five Ten mountain biking shoes fit the bill. Pedal, push, and hike in any terrain with the comfort, traction, and support made for all-day adventure. We feel the TrailCross LT is a strong value for the right buyer.

The insole is generally pleasant and the thin, yet broad, tongue sits flat against the feet. We found it easy to pull even tension across the foot with the laces, although we could feel the shoe’s laces through the thin, mesh tongue. We didn’t find it to be too uncomfortable, although it could potentially create pressure points if the laces were over-tightened.

Designed with adventurous trail riding in mind, these shoes blend a lightweight yet durable hiking-friendly build with a grippy Stealth rubber outsole that provides positive traction on flat pedals. The result is a shoe that’s equally at home on or off the bike, making it a great option for bikepacking trips in the desert, adventurous trail rides in unfamiliar mountain terrain, and trail building. The FiveTen TrailCross LT is a supremely versatile mountain bike shoe that bridges the gap between a dedicated mountain bike shoe and running/hiking shoe.

Issimo uses a 630Wh battery for “endless rides,” an “optimized center of gravity” for higher maneuverability, fat tires, and a suspension fork — all for safer, more comfortable city riding. The newest addition to the flat pedal mountain bike range is the Five Ten Trail Cross. The version we have here is the Mid version which has much better ankle protection in the form of D30 inserts. The soft and breathable mesh upper is extremely pleasant against the foot. It is quite soft and supple and easily conforms to shape of the foot.

I sent them straight back and now have a pair of UK 9.5s which after my first ride out fit great. GearLab is founded on the principle of honest, objective, reviews. I’m a size 12 as well….I got mine from LordGun in Italy to US. The size 11 for me fits great….If you like wearing extra thick socks I might consider a 11.5. From the posts I’ve read on these it seems the smaller the shoe size the more true to size like BujiBiker and other forums. Mine wont be here until Monday, ordered from overseas…most of the reviews on adidas said they ran big. We’re looking forward to some proper bike time in these to give you a full review. Unfortunately, the somewhat limited features of the shoe also includes the lack of any real protection for your toes. Sadly, this led to the painful demise of a couple toe nails as my foot met a hidden stump on the trailside. Those looking for a shoe to suit aggressive riding in technical terrain would be better suited by some of the burlier shoes in the lineup. The rubber is showing some signs of wear after fifteen or so aggressive rides, though this is only superficial and doesn’t pose any major long-term durability concerns yet.

This shoe flexes very easily from the ball of the foot forward, making it easy to have a natural walking motion. It does not flex much from the ball of the foot to the heel, and it feels stiff enough to keep the jarring trail forces from reaching your feet and causing discomfort and fatigue. When putting the power down on the pedals, you can certainly notice a slight amount of flex, but we don’t think it significantly detracts from pedal efficiency. Yes, there are stiffer shoes that offer better power transfer, but none that match the hikeability of the Trailcross.

Otherwise, the shoes aren’t showing any signs of premature wear and tear, with the strategically placed abrasion patches doing their bit in keeping things together. We’ve heard lots of horror stories about shoes falling apart very quickly and it appears that based on this pair, we should have a reasonable life span ahead. When squeezing and twisting the shoe by hand, the softer flex of the Trailcross LT is apparent.

The slightly rockered sole paired with easy flex through the toe creates an excellent walking motion. The Stealth Phantom rubber is grippy and hooks up well on almost all surfaces short of mud and slop. The tread design has also been optimized for walking, with stepped lugs at the toes and wide lugs at the heel for extra bite. If you frequently find yourself hiking across sketchy sections of trail with your bike on your shoulder…this is a great shoe for the job. Padded ankle coverage and a hard-wearing upper keep your feet comfortable through a variety of terrain and elements.

The new Trail Cross Mid is a flat pedal, mid-top shoe that isn’t actually designed to be an all-out mountain biking, flat-pedal shoe. Rather, this one is a bit of an all-rounder with nods to bike packing, hiking, messing about in the woods and flat-pedal hooning. But onto my old bugbear about Five Tens and proof that you perhaps can’t have it all. As you can see from the images here, there are already a few chunks gouged out by my flat pedals – Hope’s infamously-flesh-eating F20s – after a couple of months of hard use. I’d add, however, that if you rotate your riding/bikepacking shoes with day to day footware, it stands to reason that you’ll get a lot more life out of them.
