Going Camping For The First Time What Do I Need

7 min read

You should be ready for your first camping experience at this stage. Plan for everything, including traffic delays, to ensure you arrive at your campsite on time. It’s advisable to arrive early for several reasons. First and foremost, you’ll get an opportunity to choose the best camping ground. You’ll also have enough time to pitch your tent and relax or engage in any other task. You need plates, cups, sporks, and pots to cook and serve your meals when camping.

The tent is the most important part when it comes to camping. When it’s your first time, you want to check that you have the very best in camping equipment and that you’ve put it up and took it down successfully. An ingenious suggestion we received through the BIG4 Facebook page was for first-time campers to choose a campsite within close range of a hardware store. This way, you can easily grab a spare item or three in case you are ill-prepared. When planning your packing list make sure to bring a tarp.

Step 1: Pick Your Camping Site

Wish I’d had your hub to refer to then, since it was also my first camping experience. It was a fun hub to write–full of nostalgia for me. I’ve one more to write on my blog of more personal stories that happened on our family trips in my own youth, as well as things that happened when taking my girls camping. Food should be ridiculously simple to prepare, such as freeze-dried whole meals and other just-add-water mixes. To make it even easier, make dinner your only hot meal; use cold cereal for breakfast, and sandwiches for lunch. If you’ve never been camping before, there are a few things to keep in mind, and prepare for.

As someone who had never slept in a tent before, I had never slept on the ground either. I know it can be hard to get comfortable during your first time camping, but are there any tips and tricks to getting some shut-eye? It seems that if you have a good tarp to protect you from the rain and wet ground, all will be okay. Often, those group trips take a little encouragement. My friends like the idea of going somewhere pretty, but worry about being uncomfortable, bored or just spending too much money.

Optional Camping Gear:

You may also be required to seal up all your meals when you are away from the camping site. Consider carrying a large sealable bin to make storage and transportation easier. Camping could be always fun only if planning goes right.

And bring along plastic bags and ziplock bags – they always seem to come in handy for storing items when it rains. A subreddit for campers concerned more about the act of camping and less concerned about hiking long distances or light gear. And don’t forget to bring firewood…you can usually buy it by the bundle near all campgrounds. You may be allowed to pick up downed wood in Big Sur, but it may not be dry. Next you need to make sure you have proper gear. Personally, I don’t fancy huge house like tents because a lot of them aren’t free standing and it’s a pain to set up.

Hiking

If you do forget to bring something, there is no point trying to defend yourself. Accept your responsibility with humility and get back to the task at hand, enjoying your camping adventure. You can also buy gadgets for cooking food over a campfire. This is trickier than you’d imagine – especially since you’ll have to build a campfire for each meal.

You can go with some easy campground to get some experience and later try something hard. A campground like the bank of river, lake or a side of the forest is ideal. Going camping with your family is not something that every household will do regularly, but it’s certainly worth trying once in order to give your children a new experience. Here are some tips for using when going camping for the first time. Be sure to pack a tarpaulin or two; these are also useful to protect against the sun and wind.

Soon you’ll be going to bed with the sun and waking up with the lark. Our step-by-step guide to camping for beginners should help you relax and enjoy your first camping trip so much that hopefully it won’t be your last. Every campsite is different and we aren’t about to dictate what type of campsite you should be staying at but we can point you towards our favourites!

First would be to research the area you want to travel to, and second, what items you will need. The second list could be long or short, depending on how many in your family, and how long you will be staying. It’s recommended to bring 2 to 3 liters of water per person per day. Since very apart from drinking water, if you don’t find a nearby water source, it will also serve for cleaning functions. You can choose some of the parks or mountains nearby and make sure they offer some activities that everyone can do.

Before You Set Out To Go Camping

Besides location, remember to explore the uniqueness of the campsites you wish to visit. When starting out, it’s important to think of what’s important to you. Do you want fancy facilities, a sea view, or campfire? For starters, I’d recommend a developed camping ground with readily available amenities to those who need them. Once you have your camping site preferences, find camping sites near you that offer such experiences/features. The campsite should be fairly popular for safety reasons; however, avoid overly busy camping spots that are crowded for obvious reasons.

I prefer plastic that i can wash, not just because they are environmentally better, but they are sturdier for cutting roasts and steaks. So packing the right amount of food is going to be important. Your length of time will actually dictate how much food you will need to bring along as well as the amount of people going with you on your camping trip. Family outdoor adventure is something I love, but I have to admit that I was never really itching to sleep in a tent. We’ve created first-time RV checklist for you to read and use while packing up your RV for the first time.

Is a solid combination of value, weight, size and performance. You can often find them on-sale for $80 or less and this is a bag that will work equally well while car camping or even backpacking. Couples might appreciate a two-person bag for nighttime cuddles. It’s clear if you are going to camp you need a tent – before anything else.

What To Take Motorcycle Camping

Sound travels so well that you can usually hear campers whispering at the next site. One noisy campsite can keep dozens of campers from a good sleep. The little privacy you have is limited to your campsite. Respect the space that other campers have chosen, and don’t walk through another campsite to get someplace. I come from a camping and hiking family so I’ve experienced several of those beginner levels.

Some campgrounds may have water and electric at each site or sometimes a communal water faucet. If no one in your group does, there are lists on line of what should go in a camp box. If you have a large group, these chores can be divided among you. You will want to plan menus ahead of time, and decide who is bringing what. There are many recipes for campfire cooking, but a two burner stove is a wonderful addition.

A lot of people prefer GPS navigation systems, especially if their orienteering skills aren’t so great. Read this article on what to do if it rains while camping. You don’t want to get to camp and end up wrestling with the damn thing for 2+ hours! Not only will you make a fool of yourself, but you might not set it up properly. Then, when a midnight shower hits, you get wet and end up sleeping in the car.

It may be worth looking into if there are any new camper programs offered at state parks in your area. In Texas, out Parks and Wildlife program does them for families and groups and they’re apparently really good. If your using a cooking stove then it would be easier to just warm up your food without having to use too much of your gas for the stove. Camping helps us get away from all the technology that surrounds our daily lives. And it’s because we are so occupied with the different activities with camping that you won’t have time to be on your phone.
