Considering the Norwegians are currently in source selection along with Denmark, Finland, and Sweden for the Nordic Combat Uniform, the Marines’ efforts seem to be a waste of time. Even the Norwegians know their clothing needs to replaced so you wonder if it’s not a throwaway, in order to validate current Marine systems as superior. Level 5 to create a waterproof hard-shell layer of protection against prolonged or hard rain and cold/wet conditions. The GEN III Wind Jacket is designed to act as a low volume shell layer that optimizes the moisture wicking properties of other GEN III insulative and next-to-skin layers. Constructed with Polartec Power Dry grid material, this layer provides extra warmth in cooler conditions but still wicks moisture away and dries fast.

Rated to -40°F, it was a tri-layered system which included a polypropylene underwear base, a water/wind-resistant middle layer and an outer layer parka and pants. The Parka and Trousers are designed for use in extreme cold, and dry conditions. The system can be broken into 7 layers, consisting of 12 components. These pieces work in conjunction to provide insulation, and wick moisture from the body. Surplus is real military gear, and the exact conditions may vary.
