Here’s everything you need to know about Montane Minimus 777 Waterproof Jacket Review. Find all the information it in this article.

Montane’s Minimus Stretch Ultra Jacket is pretty much the new and improved Minimus Stretch Jacket. It’s constructed using the same 2.5 Layer Pertex Shield fabric with stretch but has a more minimalist feature set, making it even lighter than before. Montane has been making superior quality products for a number of years, and the Montane Minimus 777 Jacket, Rain Jacket is their approach to demonstrating how much they are concerned.

The Minimum Stretch is a waterproof breathable jacket that weighs close to the same as a LHJ, which is completely NOT breathable but has pitzips. The Lightheart is about half the price of the Montane and requires no maintenance . Both have excellent hoods, but the pockets and wrist cuffs on the Montane are better. Suggest you read my Lightheart Review for more details.

For example, when pushing hard I sweat much more than my wife, and as a result she can typically wear less breathable jackets. With this arrangement in place, and me being assigned as the review editor, I have total confidence in Emylene’s ability to synthesize the experiences of her tester into an accurate and valuable review. I like rain jackets and yes I’ve heard every riposte there is. this one weighs five ounces and is three ply. If you are looking for a lightweight waterproof/breathable jacket for three seasons use this is a good pick, but expensive. I view it as my journalistic responsibility to review new gear that I don’t necessarily use everyday and cite it’s pros and cons.

The Arc’teryx, on the other hand, has the better fitting, toggle-adjusted hood, and is less prone to wetting out . The hood and improved waterproofing is what pushes us to like Arc’teryx more, but that doesn’t take anything away from the Minimus 777, which is a very well designed, and surprisingly durable, ultralight shell. The jacket is great quality, smooth rustle free material and even good alone next to the skin.

There are Velcro straps on the cuffs, and the bottom hem is adjustable. It comes highly recommended for anyone just wanting to keep dry on a short early morning run, or a long ultra distance trail race, or mountain marathon in the most inclement conditions. Montane have long had a reputation for producing quality lightweight products. There’s a cinchable hem drawcord at the bottom of the Minimus Stretch Jacket, which is another important temperature regulation feature in cooler weather and helps trap your body heat around your core.

If possible, we recommend trying on the jacket prior to purchasing or possibly going up a size. The hood of the jacket is not helmet compatible, but designed instead to be worn under helmets. In an age where nearly all waterproof shells are designed with helmet compatible hoods, we found this feature to be a drawback when using the jacket for technical purposes. It is much easier to vent by pulling the hood on or off over a helmet rather than having to take a helmet off for this adjustment. We did find the center zipper to be nice in providing increased protection from the elements as it extends above chin level to the bottom of one’s nose. Given its simplicity, low weight, and waterproofness, this jacket is best for trail runners, bikers and hikers who spend ample time in the elements.

Montane Minimus 777 Jacket Review: Performance Summary

My 20 days they were a joke and I starting using them as wind pants. I’m not talking about the DWR wetting out, but rather lots of water coming right through from a broken down membrane. It measures the rate at which moisture permeates through a fabric measured in grams/meter/day. It is notoriously hard to measure accurately, so any rating should be treated as a guide.

Don’t get me wrong, I still sweat, it just does a far greater job of venting it. As good as or better than Gore-tex, or Event, or Hyvent, or Dry.Q, or NeoShell, or….you get it. The half zip and ability to roll the sleeves up high help to dump a lot of extra heat as well.

Both of these qualities allow the user to adjust the garment to their needs and make it protect them better. For the comfort of the user, the Montane Minimus has a few small features to make it more cozy and enjoyable to wear. The hem on the bottom is adjustable to prevent heat loss and weather entry. Even though this is a light jacket not capable of retaining body heat or having any insulation, it will keep you warm to a certain extent. People seem to love the durability and longevity of the YKK zippers on the front closure and chest pocket. It has a D-ring attachment inside for keys and an included stuff sack.

The Minimus’s trump card is its wind-resistant Pertex construction.

Montane Minimus Stretch Ultra Jacket Review

Constructed from ultralight PERTEX® SHIELD, which offers full waterproof protection with the highest levels of breathability for the ultimate balance of weight and performance. The one on the front to close the jacket is a unique Aquaguard zipper with a rain drain and a storm flap on the inside. The storm flap protects you and your clothing from the water that could enter through the metal teeth of the zipper.

So I’m not an expert on PacLite, but it should easily outlast PS+, and even it if doesn’t it’s much easier to warranty and you can use the credit towards a different GT jacket. Several people commented in their online feedback of how much they really liked the hood. They also commented on how it could be stored away in the back when they did not want to wear it. From memory on this day, in November in the highlands, it wold probably have been a Helly Hansen Warm Half Zip. I have also worn Montane Primino Half Zip and Ronhill Merino 1/2 Zip which are slightly thiner but still keep you nice and warm. Hope that helps but do ask back any other questions. Bear in mind only the Montane, OMM and Inov-8 have fully taped seams and are fully waterproof.

Montane Minimus 777 Jacket, Rain Jacket

Instead, the jacket is stored in the backpack for the majority of time. For such conditions a hardshell jacket is a better choice than a softshell jacket as it is easier to pack and much lighter – and having lightweight gear is vital for ascending high peaks in the Alps. Furthermore, a hardshell jacket also offers better protection against rain. The first thing you noticed when you put on this jacket was how comfortable and quiet the fabric is. It has a mild stretch built into it so it moves with you when you pull on a backpack or grab a handhold to pull yourself up a ledge.

Fully Adjustable Hood

Without people like you we would only have the bought and paid for reviews from sources unknown. I tested the Montane Minimus 777 over a two month period in New Hampshire’s White Mountains in temperatures ranging from 70 degrees down to 30 degrees in rain, snow, and windy conditions, above and below treeline. The wrists of the jacket are elasticized, but fairly snug so you can’t pull them up higher than your forearm. The jacket length drops to the bottom of the buttocks but tends to ride at waist height when worn with a backpack. If you’d like to know availability and delivery times for a specific item pleasecontact usand we will get back to you the same day.

Not having pit zips, or a full length zipper, the Pertex Shield+ is relied upon solely to vent. I was going to get as wet as I did in the pouring rain. This reduces the lifting of the hem when stretching for things or activities.

However, the pocket’s zipper is covered with a storm flap and during the testing I haven’t noticed any leaks in this area. Several times I wore the jacket directly over my Woolly Merino t-shirt as the weather was warm and the fabric didn’t cause any discomfort against my bare arms. One jacket that strives for just about the exact same goals as the Minimus 777 is the Arc’teryx Norvan SL Hoody.

Montane Medusa 32 Rucksack

It keeps water out and weight to a minimum while allowing a bit more breathability than you’ll get from your average boil-in-the-bag windbreaker. It’s not light on features though, with a drawstring waist and collar, Velcro cuffs and a wire-peaked hood alongside a cavernous front stash pocket. The hood can be rolled down too, thanks to a clever Velcro fastening tag. Here we’ve collected independent reviews from a range of walking and trekking magazines so that you can be more informed about the Montane gear that we sell. I also avoid shells as much as possible when I run. With more breathable, technical pieces like this, I’m actually encouraged to try some new options .
