And that’s just the beginning of the awesomeness in store for visitors. There are also five major rivers, meadows filled with wildflowers, glimmering lakes and icy glaciers. And, of course, the car campgrounds and primitive walk-in sites for tents only deserve a shoutout. While real-deal mountaineer types can obtain permits for off-the-beaten-path backcountry camping that all feels very modern pioneer in spirit. There is a picnic area available for use and a marina for loading and unloading boats on to the lake.

The campground, which sits at the base of majestic Bonaparte Mountain, offers individual, family, and group campsites, all equipped with picnic tables and grills. Campers can make use of onsite drinking water and flush toilets, along with a rentable group picnic shelter and community fire pit. A boat launch and ADA-accessible fishing dock make the campground a great choice for visitors looking to hit the waters of Bonaparte Lake. Hikers can choose from some of the Pacific Northwest’s best nature trails, including Boulder Cave National Recreation Trail and the spectacular Pacific Crest Trail. Lake Spokane Campground is one of Spokane’s top campsites, located just nine miles outside of the city’s center in a gorgeous wilderness area on the banks of the Little Spokane River. The campground provides access to prime regional outdoor recreation opportunities throughout the year, including chances for mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, and rock climbing.

Kids can have fun with field games, forest exploration, and skipping stones on the river water. The campgrounds are also suitable for couples to take walks in the nature trails. This campground is also distinguished by its dog-friendly policies, allowing you to bring along your favorite pooch on your camping adventure. While this beach provides peace and tranquility, it is also located just two miles from the town of Long Beach and all of its amenities. Visitors at the park can access natural trails from the nearby Thunder Creek Trail. The campgrounds also offer an amphitheater, food storage lockers, and boat trailer parking.

Each campsite is given a large amount of privacy and seclusion from others at the campgrounds. Located in north central Washington, Curlew Lake State Park is often overlooked, but offers beautiful views via its biking and hiking trails that surround the lake. On the west edge of the North Cascades, Rasar State Park offers hiking, river exploration, and gorgeous mountain views from a wide-open meadow trail. The perfect low-country location to go camping when the higher parks are still under snow. There is a parking area with overflow directed to boat launch parking.

Lake Wenatchee State Park Campground, Leavenworth

Tent sites 1–49 have awe-inspiring views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Some sites are first-come, first-served, while others can be secured in advance. Pitch your tent in old-growth forest along the shores of Diablo Lake, a blue-green beauty with excellent opportunities for fishing. Tackle the nearby Thunder Knob Trail for an awe-inspiring viewpoint of the lake. To be honest, we rarely stay at full service RV parks when we travel so I don’t have a lot of recommendations for this section, however, I was very impressed with Hells Canyon RV Resort.

Pets are welcome throughout the forest, including campsite areas, making it a great choice for visitors traveling with four-legged friends in tow. You’ll need to reserve campsites six months in advance during the peak season. There are no showers, but you’ll find flushing toilets and nearby potable water. You’ll also have easy access to the plethora of classic hiking trails nearby.

There are two campgrounds located in Riverside State Park that covers 9194 acres along Spokane and Little Spokane Rivers — the Bowl and Pitcher Campgrounds. Owned by PacifiCorp, the campground is very well-maintained and boasts large shades sites. There is also a kid-friendly beach and multiple grassy areas for you to relax. Nestled into the foothills of the towering Cascade Mountains at the base of the Wenatchee River, you will find the popular Leavenworth / Pine Village KOA Holiday campground.

Cedar Springs Campground is set on the banks of the stunning Bumping River within the grounds of Washington’s spacious Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. The campground is a top family-friendly choice within the national forest, offering spaces for tents, trailers, and RVs to stay overnight throughout the year. Each campsite is fully equipped with picnic tables, campfire rings, and access to nearby vault toilets and drinking water. The forest’s nearby lakes and trails are home to a multitude of recreational opportunities, including chances for hiking, fishing, skiing, and whitewater rafting. Beautiful Boulder Cave National Recreation Trail can be accessed nearby, showcasing gorgeous glaciated alpine mountain peaks and natural wonders like Boulder Cave.

There are many recreational opportunities at the campgrounds or nearby, including hiking trails, kayaking and of course boating and fishing on the lake. Even better than this campground’s proximity to the Bavarian-ified town of Leavenworth is that it’s not too close to Leavenworth—a good three miles from the packed downtown. Besides the year-round Oktoberfest vibe and Nutcracker Museum, the area offers hiking, mountain biking, and river rafting. Founded in 1946, the resort has 10 primo campsites that back right onto the banks of Icicle River.

Renovation and construction of the campground was done in 1972. In 2004, 94 acres, including a store, hayfield, and the west campground were added to the park. In springtime, the sunny weather and shrub-steppe landscape make this park a perfect escape from the late winter grays. The spring-fed lake is a fishing oasis, and the Rex Derr Trail allows hikers to take in the lake views and endless folding hills. Sol Duc campground is one of the best campgrounds in Washington because it is near the hot springs. The Sol Duc falls hike is good for kids and the campground even has a couple of loops to enjoy.

The area, which appears barren from the ground, was carved by glaciers over 13,000 years ago. While staying at Salt Creek, you can visit the sprawling, rugged Crescent Bay Beach just a short walk from the campground. Also nearby is the Tongue Point Marine Sanctuary, where you’ll find teeming tide pools.

And then I decided the list was too great to not share with everybody. Alder Lake, Rocky Point Campground- This campground gets a bit less traffic and attention than its northern counterpoint and is a calmer spot when it comes to prevailing winds. Lake Cushman, Skokomish Park North Camp – A well-equipped hike-in campground on one of Eastern Olympic Peninsula’s prettiest lakes. Green Lakes Trail is a spectacular hike with amazing scenery, leading to a lake basin tucked between mountains. Oregon’s hot springs can be found wedged between volcanic mountains, as remote desert oases, or conveniently located right after the next highway off-ramp. Chacolet offers those looking for a getaway 38 different tent sites, but does not offer a shower facility.

The nearest town is Chelan, which is 10 miles away from the park and has many stores, restaurants and other services. SPOKANE, Wash. — Summer in the Inland Northwest brings the perfect weather for many outdoor activities, including camping. Though some campgrounds remain open all year, accessibility, hookups, and other amenities can vary by month. Whether you’re parking the RV or camping in secluded wilderness, explore the great outdoors of the Evergreen State with Moon Washington Camping. Visit one of the many trails in the park, bike along the Lewis and Clark Discovery Trail, or head across the Columbia to the town of Astoria in Oregon for a day of sightseeing.

Nature lovers will appreciate the nearby McNary National Wildlife Refuge. On your way back to the campground, you can pop by one of the local wineries. The campground itself is spacious with 168 campsites for tent camping and RV camping.

Come time to check out the beach, it’s less than a two-mile drive to the shore. For a taste of the Bainbridge Island life, head to Fay Bainbridge Park on the island’s north end. This 17-acre marine park has many amenities to make for a comfortable stay, and several campsites with quite a view.
