Buena Vista PicturesWith the release of Wes Anderson’s latest film (“The French Dispatch”) just weeks away, you may want to check out the acclaimed writer-director’s other films. His second feature, “Rushmore,” stars Jason Schwartzmann as overachieving outsider Max Fischer. After Max befriends a middle-aged businessman and develops a crush on his teacher , everything blows up when he discovers that the two are having an affair. There’s nothing else to do but to declare war on his new rival – which, in typical Anderson fashion, involves staging plays, elaborate pranks, and revenge plots. His zany approach to family dynamics and impeccable visual style are on display in this early gem.

April is jam packed with exciting new shows, movies, and documentaries, plus live sports events you won’t want to miss. With Daniel Craig’s final James Bond movie, No Time To Die, now in theaters, it’s a great opportunity to check out one of his best earlier 007 movies. Director Sam Mandes brings tons of style to the movie, while Javier Bardem’s deranged cyberterrorist Raoul Silva is one of Bond’s most memorable adversaries. Is lyrical, unhurried; it rests with its characters, respects their decisions, and carves for them a comforting space on the fraying edge of American society. And of course, Frances McDormand is an actor perfectly-cast to exist at the center of all of this.

Farrow and John Cassavettes are excellent as wife and husband, believable as a young couple in love. There is something off kilter about their neighbors and the film keeps us anxiously theorizing, until its final scenes reveal all. Who can forget when the bad guys are indulging in a bountiful buffet, warm inside a restaurant, and the good guy detectives are shoveling corner pizza into their mouths parked outside in the freezing NYC winter? The duet between evil and good is played out so harmoniously, that The French Connection easily becomes one of the most delightful dances of villainy in modern film to watch and sink into.

This is rom com central, and a “gathering the fam for the holidays” movie, to boot. But DuVall keeps the mood steady, and the cast is game to bring real life to the ensemble. Happiest Season also tells a story of coming out to one’s parents, and the pressure that decision can put on the people and parties involved.

You can filter not only by genres, but also release year, ratings, age ratings and more, so that you can easily find the best new movie on Hulu for you to watch right now. Anchored by an absolutely riveting performance from Nicole Kidman as a roguish, embittered LAPD detective, Destroyer is a crime film stretched taut at its sinews. Kidman the movie star is utterly disappeared inside her character, and the violence of the fractured world these characters inhabit — both in the criminal underworld and the police department — is a landscape steeped in darkness. Destroyer was directed by Karyn Kusama , and its portrayal of the city of Los Angeles as the site of all of this murkiness gives the whole thing a twisted noir feel, like a Raymond Chandler story soaked in blood and left to die on the street. With a plot that ties itself in barbed wire and a strong supporting cast including Sebastian Stan and Toby Kebbell, Destroyer is as relentless an LA crime movie as Kidman is in her performance. Russell Crowe leads the Patrick O’Brian adaptation that takes place during the Napoleonic Wars and follows the voyages of a ship on the high seas.

Younger viewers might think of Jeff Bridges and Glenn Close as the Dude and the first live-action Cruella de Vil, respectively, but even they won’t be able to resist this sexy murder mystery from “Return of the Jedi” director Richard Marquand. Teddy Barnes , a whip-smart lawyer, has been hired to defend a man accused of killing his wife. She’s not sure — and neither will you be, until this thrilling film reaches its explosive ending. Zoë Kravitz plays beleaguered nouveau A-lister Heather Anderson, whose violent demise — in the macabre tradition of Laura Palmer — initiates the story.

New Documentaries On Hulu

This mom-com is packed to the brim with great one-liners, zany supporting characters and hilarious gags. The film’s first major sequence has Grace and REV-9 demolishing vast swaths of an automobile assembly planet as they duke it out, then transitioning to a crazy highway car chase. It’s slightly diminishing returns from there as Miller employs his journeyman style in an attempt to raise the stakes for the next half-dozen smash-’em-up sequences, but dilutes the thrills with silly contrivances and mediocre CGI. So this is a same-shit-different-day kind of movie that’ll either tickle your nostalgia zones or make you feel exhausted. If you don’t feel like wading through an endless list of titles to find something new to watch, you’re in luck!
