Training a dog to poop outside is easier than you think. It’s a weird day if I don’t find a pile of dog poop somewhere on the trail. So many people bring poop bags with them for accidents like these and then actually forget or purposely forget to pick them up on the way out. Teaching your dog not to poop in the yard shouldn’t be any harder than teaching him not to do his business in the house. You can extend the same type of training to when he pees.
Don’t let it explore other areas of the yard until that happens. If your dog can poop when you show him his designated spot, give him verbal praise as well as a treat. I would not reprimand for not going in the woods…I have had dogs that refused to go except for “thier spot” before. Making your dog poop out in a wet place beforehand is the easiest way to get rid of poop in case of a bad weather day.
Take him there as often as you did at your former place and give him the “poop command he’s used to hearing. If he poops there, give out praises and treats, this will ring a bell and it will encourage him to keep pooping there. Your house-trained dog will have to adapt all over again to the new home and routine. Things like the neighbor’s car horn, music, and even other pets may seem unfamiliar and could force your dog to start pooping in the house.

Reward your dog for good behavior and repeat the steps above. Pay attention to your dog during normal activities and watch his body language. Your puppy may spin around, pace, or wag his behind a little more when he has to eliminate. Knowing these signs will help you to get your dog to his potty place within an appropriate time. With your dog on a leash, walk him to the designated poop spot and let him sniff around.
Keep his first pile of poop in this designated area and keep the rest of the yard clean. Choose a special spot for your dog to poop all the time. Be sure this spot is one you are happy with time and time again and avoid changing the spot and causing confusion for your older dog.

As he gets used to the special spot, he can eventually go without the leash.

Immediately open the crate and scoop him up and put him on the wee wee pad. If you have chosen to train him to poop outside, then scoop him up and quickly take him outside. However, if you live in an apartment building, train him on the wee wee pads first.
