Thermarest Neoair Xlite Max Sv Large

Here’s everything you need to know about Thermarest Neoair Xlite Max Sv Large. Find all the information it in this article.

Once I closed the speed valve, I could top up the mattress with 4-5 breaths into the standard valve to reach a firm fill. In the Corus HD Quilt and Xlite Max SV pad, they have made widely available a sleep combo that is comfortable, functional, packable. The quilt and mattress work perfectly well separately, and, together, they are a solid pair.

The Therm-a-Rest Max SV is a perfect pad if you’re looking for a lightweight sleeping option that is comfortable, easy to inflate, and warm enough for three season use. Use it for general backpacking, base-camping, and as the one pad that’ll fit most of your uses. It isn’t ideal for ultralight backpacking or alpine climbing because it sacrifices weight for the convenience of the SpeedValve. A good night’s sleep on a backpacking trip used to be a rarity, but today’s sleeping pads are much improved over their predecessors. Comfort is better than ever with advanced baffling and cell designs, weight and packed size continue to drop, and you… Deflated and rolled, the whole NeoAir range makes for really tight packages and this mat has transformed my setup.

Familiar Neoair Construction In A New Form

You cannot use this inflatable like a CCF pad in that respect. That’s a shortcoming for inflatables, and not a reason I only gave this pad 3 stars. Just undo the speed valve, and start rolling from the bottom. Rolling it back up and getting it into the stuff sack is a little chore as you can’t just stuff it in the sack. If the wind is blowing, it makes this chore even more difficult because the bad doesn’t want to stay folded.

There are a number of ways backpackers trim total packed weight, but one of the simplest and most affordable is their sleeping pad. Ultralight, packable three-season comfort with fast & easy inflation/deflation. The problem has to do with the user-friendliness of the SpeedValve construction and the black plastic sleeve.

Wings toggle for one-way inflation to save breath. The speed valve is not as easy to use as the videos would have you believe. It takes at least 20 blows to get it to the point where you use the traditional valve to “top it off.” You also have to lay the pad out flat, and get down level with the speed valve. If you stand up and try it, it just doesn’t work as well. And, you have to be perfect with sealing the speed valve or it is going to have a slow leak resulting in the need to re-inflate in the middle of the night.

If making sure the black strip area is clear of plastic doesn’t work, there’s nothing else I do that’s different. Which makes me think maybe there’s another seal issue with the valve that I’m not having but others are with their pads. A rectangular option of our legendary ultralight pad, trusted by mountaineers.

What Do You Think About This Product?

I think many sites are a lot more interested in “news” than reviews. Thanks, as always, for your candid review of this product and all the others. The author would like to thank Therm-a-Rest Marketing and Customer Service for being so forthcoming about the product issues that customers are experiencing with the new SpeedValve technology. Construction minimizes convective heat loss–all without the bulk, weight or durability issues of down and synthetic fills.

The kit you don’t have to think about while proving packable, durable and functional – the three pillars of outdoor gear. One of the most valued bits of kit for those who venture outside regularly, the humble sleeping pad single handedly has the power to make or break a trip. Too big, and it’ll unnecessarily fill your pack while you curse the extra weight. Poorly constructed, and it will have you waking aching and possibly cold.

For comfort-conscious campers, we use stretch knit fabric for unrivaled support and superior next-to-skin feel. The fabric conforms to your body to provide supple support as you enjoy your nights under the stars. Our intuitive and dependable valve maximizes air flow for easier inflation and quicker deflation.

Still the best combo I found for inflating/deflating was the Exped Schnozzle pump bag and sea to summit valve system. Deflates in a fraction of a second and no more than three bag fulls of air to inflate it. To close the SpeedValve, roll it closed 7 times and secure it so the buckle is facing down.To close the SpeedValve, roll it closed seven times . Close the buckle, so it’s on the underside of the pad. Use the provided stick valve to top off the pad or release air for comfort. Fast inflating speed valve pulls in surrounding air to amplify your breath, inflating your mattress in ⅓ the time of conventional valves.

R-value is a measure of a material’s resistance to heat transfer. If you want to compare camp mattress R values, here are a few we compared a couple years ago. I don’t pay much attention to numbers like these, since there is so much variation in subjective sleep temperature and R-values are calculated in idealized conditions. I can report that my wife, who sleeps cold, found the Xlite Max SV both comfortable and a warm ground insulator when she borrowed it. Thermarest calls this a three season pad, and while I’m sure that’s a sound designation, I wouldn’t hesitate to put in on snow. Thermarest’s NeoAir Xlite Max SV is a made-in-USA ultralight air mattress.

For camping close to your car, the NeoAir Camper SV is a full 3-inches thick (the others are 2.5 inches) and better for side sleepers, but weighs far too much to be carried in a pack. No matter the variant, the SpeedValve undoubtedly is an impressive piece of technology, and one we hope Therm-a-Rest will continue to work on and implement into more air pads. Ultralight products meant for moving quickly in the backcountry delicately balance weight and durability. I am a bit of a weight junkie, but do have concerns about the durability of the fabric. Thankfully the pad comes with a repair kit and I was able to patch it. Despite numerous trips since, it has not punctured again.

We began our testing of this pad with a high degree of skepticism and critique, but the SpeedValve lives up to much of the hype. A big downside to air construction sleeping pads has always been the difficulty of inflation. Self-inflating mats are a popular alternative for this reason. The seven-inch wide valve that rolls like a dry sack is easy to use and effective. Care must be taken to roll it seven times without any creases.

The loops have a strong adhesive to affix them to the mattress and doing so took about ten minutes. For most of my testing time described above, I did not bother to attach or use the loops. I’ve recently spent several nights sleeping in the integrated configuration. For me, there is a tradeoff between the slight increased warmth of the integrated pieces and the sense of freedom to move around that I appreciate in a quilt.

Be sure to check out the regular version of the Therm-a-Rest XLite sleeping pad. When it comes to the comfort metric, the XLite Max SV’s rectangular dimensions afforded it a one point lead over its predecessor. The pad’s increased width freed our feet to move about without fear of touching the ground. Shallow horizontal baffles make for a smooth sleep surface, though the edges are prone to collapse. The significance of this fact varies according to inflation level, but our reviewers agreed that the 20 inch wide pad that we tested feels narrower in practice than others of similar dimensions. Consider the 25 inch version if you have broad shoulders.

I also prefer the tapered, mummy shape to further trim weight. It is yellow on the base not grey, so maybe a different version from that reviewed . But used it over a hundred times never with problems leaking. I’d say TARs inflation speed claims are conservative if anything, I can blow it up in seconds. Philip, you are the consumer reports of the backpacking community. Your the only reviewer who’s called out such a widespread problem.

The Quilt And Sleeping Pad As A System

It can’t have any wrinkles or folds in it when you roll it up. Only you can’t tell if it does have wrinkles or folds because they’re hidden away inside the pad’s roll top. The number of average sized people that the product can comfortably sleep.

In choosing the right backpacking tent, you have a wide range of options from minimalist ultralight shelters to inexpensive and heavier entry-level models. Can be difficult to obtain a proper seal, resulting in deflation throughout the night, which can be incredibly inconvenient. We hope that the next iteration includes a more obvious means of sealing the mattress before rolling the neck.
