For one thing, it features the most diabolically debonair villain ever thrown off an L.A. High-rise, Alan Rickman’s Hans Gruber (“I could talk about industrialization and men’s fashion all day …”). Nabbing Chris Hemsworth for the lead was a masterstroke, but the big get aside from Thor is its director Sam Hargrave, who also happens to be an MCU stunt performer. Much like John Wick saw noted stunt genius Chad Stahelski take the reins as director for the first time, Hargrave gets that same chance to lens action the way a stuntman experiences it. Cinema’s gone pretty far in terms of what’s deemed, well, acceptable, pushing the limits of good taste to the extreme. The Night Comes For Us charges down that route, somehow extending previous ideas on over the top violence and relentless barrage of gore. The Raid would spawn an arguably even better sequel, but the original is a must-watch thanks to its simplistic genius.
Speaking of co-stars, Linda Hamilton pretty much steals the movie as a buff, battle-hardened Sarah Connor. One of the most influential blockbuster movies ever made, Terminator 2 is a near-perfect sequel that sets new standards for action and visual effects. Arnold Schwarzenegger reprises his iconic role as an advanced cyborg from the future, but this time he’s protecting a target rather than killing them. With great visual effects and a fun sort of video game theme, Real Steel is no ordinary boxing movie that is sure to entertain. In the future, boxing has become a needless pursuit, at least for humans.

Those looking for a good gangster movie would perhaps be better served watching something like Goodfellas, but anyone who’s after a movie that’s a little more action-oriented will probably prefer American Gangster.
