Cannondale Bad Habit Carbon 1 2017

7 min read

Here’s everything you need to know about Cannondale Bad Habit Carbon 1 2017. Find all the information it in this article.

One of the first things riders will notice is that the Bad Habit utilizes Cannondale’s Lefty 2.0 fork up front. This was actually my first time riding a Lefty and maybe it’s cliché to say this, but it feels like a regular mountain bike fork. I probably thought about the fork for like the first two pedal strokes, then I totally forgot about it. On the trail, the Lefty felt even more stiffand precise than other forks I’ve tested.

One item that I noted immediately immediately is that the Habit Carbon SE does not come with the distinctive Lefty strut. While it has in the past, this year, Cannondale decided to equip this model with a RockShox Pike fork instead, upping the travel from 120 to 130mm up front. I was a little disappointed that I didn’t get to try out the Lefty, simply because I’ve never ridden one and I always wondered if it would feel weird, but I like the Pike, and the extra travel suits this bike well. However, the more expensive Habit Carbon 2 and Habit Carbon 1 models come with the Lefty. I personally think the Bad Habit is a great-looking bike with its 80s-inspired colors and graphics. The Lefty fork is a polarizing choice in terms of aesthetics, but either way, this bike will turn heads.

Habit: For Mountain Biking

The tailoring of any bike is an important step in the long term enjoyment of riding and it can take time to adjust to the fit of a new bike. All contact points can be changed and altered for personal preference, performance, and comfort. Despite the fact that I got used to the “normal-size” tires over the course of a couple miles, I’m just so used to plus treads now that it’s still hard to go back. But that’s why Cannondale offers the Bad Habit, which Jeff rode at Outdoor Demo. Check out his thoughts on the Habit’s chubby brother.

While the conventionally tyred, carbon framed Habit was a blisteringly quick and agile entry into our 2016 Bike of the Year line up, when things got lairy we felt it was a bit too quick and whippy for its own good. On the trail, I was at first thrown by the skinnier tires–after all, the Habit ended up being the only bike I rode at Outdoor Demo that was not plus-sized. It didn’t take too long to adapt though, and this trail bike certainly held its own for being slim. It climbed like a goat, and descended surprisingly well. It felt light, playful, and snappy–a mix of cross-country speed and trail capability.

Cannondale Bad Habit Carbon 1 2017

The Cannondale Bad Habit is a full suspension 27.5+ mountain bike with 120mm of travel front and rear. The Carbon frame is designed with a 68-degree head tube angle, which is a safe choice for a 120mm trail bike. Cannondale positions the Bad Habit as a capable trail bike designed to both climb and descend quickly, but with the added bonus of taking the sting out of technical trails thanks to the plus-size wheels. For 2017 Cannondale have taken their Habit Carbon SE trail bike and fitted it with a Rockshox Pike.

Sram Hs2 Brake Rotor Review

The cannondale Habit was pinkbike’s favorite trail bike of last year and the Synapse has won best road bike in multiple publications. I will ride lefty till it dies and i don’t care if it does. It is stiffer than my previous forks but i may be wrong it is all subjective!!!. I really would like to try Jekyll or trigger but cos of the pull shock future issues i may not buy it-hence i may agree with you on that one. With the growing interest in Plus wheeled bikes and Cannondale’s own models for the category, the brand has created another model for 2017; the Cujo. The Cujo is the brand’s entry-level 27.5+ bike and is very competitively priced.

It isn’t just about being rich, it is about what you’re willing to invest in. Some people buy an expensive cellphone every year and a big data bundle to go with that, some spend more money on their car than they really need to, some enjoy expensive wine or dining in fancy restaurants. And some don’t want any of that but ride loads everyday and have been saving up for a bike like this because it makes them happy. And if they have the money I can imagine they’d rather protect their eyes from excessive computer use and go out and ride instead. And I honestly doubt they buy a new one every year. We let the rich people pay the depreciation hit so we can get the great bikes for half price.

Brakes

The idea is that the weight of the fork on the left offsets the weight of the drivetrain on the right and results in a more balanced weight distribution. Along with 20+ other leading bike companies, Cannondale is proud to be a part of the e-bike battery recycling program organized by PeopleForBikes and administrated by the not-for-profit Call2Recycle. Your payment of $0 goes to an industrywide fund that ensures batteries from Cannondale e-bikes are recycled at end of life and do not end up in landfills. With 45mm wide WTB rims and chunky Bridger tyres, the wheels on the Bad Habit are heavier than ‘regular’ 27.5in versions, but over rough ground you’d be hard pushed to notice they’re any slower. In part, this is because the tyres conform and roll over bumps so well, and the superior traction when climbing mostly offsets any penalty to acceleration. Our experts inspect each bike and rate its components on a scale of 1-10.

Original stickers, parts, and accessories are included. The frame and wheels might have minor blemishes or scuffs from transportation or showroom display. Drivetrain, levers, cockpit, and suspension are in new condition. Free international shipping available with minimum order values.

While the frame and wheels will have cosmetic scuffs, scratches, and/or paint loss, they will not be structurally damaged. Aluminum, steel, and titanium frames may have minor dents. Carbon frames may have been previously damaged, but have been professionally repaired and are structurally sound. Handlebars, stem, derailleurs, and levers show moderate scuffing or scratches, and the saddle might have slight tears. If the bike has suspension, those components will have scratches and scuffs. The Carbon SE also comes specced with 120mm of rear travel via a Fox Float DPS shock, and a Fox Transfer 150mm dropper .

Like Cannondale’s 29ers, the Bad Habit’s Lefty speeds up steering response using a special recipe. Modern bike geometry has evolved to add stability through slacker head angles and the Bad Habit sees handlebar inputs translate into more direct, ‘lighter’ steering to balance this shift. To provide the extra clearance needed for fatter tyres, the frame uses a Boost 148 rear axle. Oversized BB30 and expanding collet hardware on the main pivot and shock linkages increase frame stiffness too. Rather than using a seatstay pivot and bearing set-up, Cannondale has engineered flex into the aluminium. This saves weight, further improves stiffness and reduces unsprung mass to help suspension sensitivity.

It’s hard not to like it when it’s constantly reminding you exactly why the mountain biking bug bit you in the first place. Aside from enough traction to make everyone feel like a climbing god, the big volume/lower pressure tyres add control. Get the pressure right, and skilled riders can play harder and ride blind trails more aggressively. These bicycles are good as new, often built right out of the box from the manufacturer.

Lefty forks look weird but once you understand them, they actually make sense. Instead of having the damper on one side of the fork and the spring on the other, both are one over the other just like a car suspension. As of December 3, 2021, please refer to the Outside Terms of Use and Privacy Policy which govern your use of the Pinkbike website and services. I just bought this bike, was told it was a Medium, it’s in great shape with Saint flats. Just trying to get what I have in it back rather than dealing with shipping it back to the seller.

The latest on mountain bikes delivered straight to your mailbox. While I don’t generally like Schwalbe tires, the Magic Mary’s big knobs kept me going where I wanted to and seemed a little beefier than a lot of the company’s other offerings. Another seemingly-minor but notable detail is the Fabric saddle.

This more shoulders-forward position sees you zipping down flatter trails in a well-centred riding position that suits the Bad Habit’s trail bike attitude. We do not sell bikes that we rate lower than 6 on the condition scale. For example, this includes bikes with major dents, carbon fiber damage, excessive drivetrain wear, and/or moderate to significant suspension component wear.
