Garmin devices recognize GPX files and importing them to the other format is a must since that is the best way to use them. To delete all waypoints first ensure you have nothing but current.gpx in the GPX directory on your nuvi. If you find anything other then current.gpx with the GPX extension delete them. Make sure to make backup copy first. Disconnect from computer and reboot GPS. Now delete the favorites manually as you posted.
If you didn’t set their location yet, you can do it just by tapping on them for the first time. To change the Home or Work location, press and hold on them in the favorites screen, like any of the other favorites in the list. Folder and delete any unwanted or unused vehicles.
Current Gpx Is Not What It Seems
I have the same issue but I can’t find any file to delete, neither on the card nor anywhere in the unit. None of the suggestions work for me. As long as I have had a GPS, I should have known to look at this before asking for help.
If you sent them there somehow there will be a file other than current.gpx in the GPX folder. You need to delete that other file first as otherwise they will be reimported when you next boot your nuvi. All the selected favorites will be deleted from the favorites.

You can clean track archive, on my nuvi there is subdirectory \Garmin\GPX\Archive. Nuvi gather current track in file Current.gpx. When it grows too big, old content is copied to Archive subdirectory and saved as 1.gpx, 2.gpx etc. You can copy archived tracks to PC and delete from nuvi. Archive directory can contain several MB of data.
The file called gmapprom.img is the original mapping file that came with the Garmin. Remove the card from the card reader or SD slot and reinsert in into the Garmin. You will find that the files you wanted to delete are gone. Insert the SD card into a card reader connected to a USB port on your computer or directly into the computer’s SD card slot, if it has one.
Anyhow, much THANKS to all of you who helped me with this! I had 3 slightly varied named instances of Current.gpx that were rewriting my deleted favorites. Before I start my travel, I like saving favorites in my Garmin GPS for the first important steps.Save a Destination to Garmin GPS Favorites Search for a location. Another post on this forum indicates that you can upload favorites by placing the GPX file on a SD card and starting the unit. I think that is how I accidently put all of those items in my favorites. I too have been feeling the lack of documentation on this device. I too accidently ended up with some GPX files loading in the favorites.
