To circumvent as many problems as possible, Jeep designed the dash of their vehicles to hold the radio and protect it from that moisture. You will probably be in better shape if you have bought a Jeep with seats and floorboards designed for water fording. However, although the radio is not waterproof in your Jeep, that does not mean a random rain shower will fry your electronics.
Check out the below process to rule out each possible cause for why radio wont turn off when I open door. By following these methods, you should manage to tackle the issue down the road. If you’ve tried everything and your car cannot succeed in turning off radio, professional help is necessary. Now all you have to do when you shut your jeep off is tap the button, and it acts like opening the door.

How to Reset the Jeep Radio Code?
Henceforth, faulty ignition lock cylinders can be the potential cause behind your issue. However, the cylinders deteriorate over time, eventually stalling the normal functioning of the stereo system and the engine of your car. A cylinder is an indispensable part of an engine that generates power to run the electrical accessories to move your vehicle. However, it gets faulty over time and hampers the activity of the radio system in your automobile. Depending on your automobile stereo system, click DSLP and press CALL or press the OFF button for 2-5 seconds; now, switch on the radio system.
If you go into SETTINGS on the EVIC you can change the length of time it plays or turn it off. I didn’t like the music playing for 30 seconds after shut off with the doors off so I set it to 0. With the fuse out, your interior light will come on for 10 seconds when the ignition is turn off…other than that, you will still have manual control of it… Actually the switch that I mentioned does exactly what pulling the #4 fuse out does but without actually having to get to and pull the #4 fuse each time. SOooo, your preference switched fuse or just pull the #4 fuse. I like having the switch just as a matter of convenience.
Radio stays on after opening doors
Or u can simple turn off the power to radio when you jump out. There is a 10 minute delay from ignition off until accessories power down. Hmmmm looks like I’ll have to pull it and see what’s up. I remember doing like color wires but also double checking the source. I believe mine (’16) has a setting that sets a delay for radio off.
That is to say, if you have a standard OEM factory radio, there are fewer chances of battery drainage. Firstly, turn the ignition off and let the engine cool down; install the memory saver. Now unscrew the bolts and take off the screws from the bottom steering column cover.
Why Radio Stays on When Car is Off And Door is Open
When you do a factory reset, it will erase all of the pre-selected stations and things you have programmed into the radio. The radio will go back to the settings that it had from the factory. My settings are no radio-delay at engine-off, and don’t recall last status.
The radio remaining on does continue however you have set since this is typically a preference. Like others, I set mine to have no delay when I turn off the key whenever I have doors off. I replaced my radio last year with one from Crutchfield and had the same problem.
Radio will not shut off
Hey guys been on the forum for a long time but just to observe and read. Im having a real strange issue in where the radio stays on after i park, get out and lock the jeep. Well has any of you encountered this problem?
It did shut the interior lights off for me when I left them on all night. The jeep started right up in the morning and 30 sec later the interior lights came back on. Was doing fine, went into grocery store and when I came back out and started the Renegade there was no radio.
Q: Radio stays on after key is removed and car exited
On vehicles with evic, you can turn this off or adjust the length of time. Check out FX Mirrors as they’ve got some nice looking mirror brackets in either stainless or black but they’re a little pricey. But hey, you get what you pay for most of the time. Sorry to hear that you are also experiencing this concern.

I suspect the problem is that you have a base cluster and the stereo software is for a premium one. The aftermarket sometimes is even worse that a car company for support on older vehicles. In the end, secure the wires to their appropriate connections; upgrading it would resolve the overheating and radio system issues.
The dealer said that there is a software update but they don’t suggest updating it because it’s been killing radios and the radios are back ordered about 3.5 months. But it is a very odd and noticeable issue that I’d like to be corrected. Sounds like the CAN-Bus complicates things a little. Can’t live with them, can’t live without them… Your drivers door connector, the one you unplugged the door from, should be a 10 way connector with only 8 wires.
WK2 radio stays on when door opened
Hitting the unlock button will shut the radio off. It is almost like the Jeep doesn’t sense that the driver door is opening. I just find it hard to believe this is required in a 2007 model anything….especially something designed to have the doors removed, hence loosing the door trigger. In all honesty, it appears to be an aftermarket radio issue. The OEM radio ties into the CAN-BUS so I imagine that it is turned off via that system.
What to Do When the Jeep Radio Will Not Turn On?
I haven’t been in that setting for a while, but it seems like you can set it to turn off immediately, after 30 seconds, after 1 minute, 5 minutes, or 10 minutes. With the doors on, when does the radio turn off? Turn the Jeep off and remove the key, the radio should continue to play. If you open a door, it should turn off immediately. If you don’t open a door, the radio should turn off after a short period of time while you are still sitting in the Jeep. Dave, I purchased and installed one of your switchs a couple of weeks ago.
