Savage 110 7mm Rem Mag Review

6 min read

It should have a flat receiver and a hex bolt, bolt. It is the same vintage as mine, also an F Series. They never came w/ plastic stocks back then, so I’d look for some sort of identifying mark on the stock. If you can handle the 30-06, the 7mm is not a big increase in recoil from my experience. If it has a wood stock with no recoil pad, um, maybe different story…

I have the exact same rifle that I purchased used from a friend…totally worth that price. Just remember that ammo is a killer, cheap factory junk is more than a buck a round and will eat your shoulder for breakfast. Your bolt should have Savage on it and it also looks to be a slotted bolt retaining screw w/ a flat top receiver. Not something you would see on an F series at all. The F series was made between 1989 and 1992.

Gun Review: Savage 110 High Country

The detachable magazine on the 110 series of rifles requires the rear to be completely flush before the front will snap into place. Interestingly enough, even when we didn’t have the magazine seated properly it still fed rounds reliably, although its removal, when empty, required extra effort. Threading for the installation of accessories. We utilized a Kahntrol Solutions HexMod muzzle brake for our function testing, which all but eliminated the felt recoil of the already light .243 rounds. Not all shooters are on board with the synthetic-stock movement that has taken over today’s rifle market, and Savage is well aware of that.

The rig performs, and in fact, performs so well that I intend to use the High Country/Bushnell Forge combination for a Plains Game hunt in the wilds of Africa. The test model Forge is the 3-18x50mm with an SFP Deploy MOA reticle, though FFP’s are also available with MIL options as well. There’s the Revlimiter zero stop turrets as well as a handy Throw Hammer power change lever that makes life easier for hunters, especially with gloves. The Forge line carries MSRP’s from $559.00 to $949.99 and includes Bushnell’s Lifetime Ironclad Warranty. He did sight it in, but didn’t enjoy it, the rifle was in btw.

Speaking of accuracy, the test rifle’s AccuTrigger broke just under 3-pounds out of the box, though it is user-adjustable. The tang-mounted, three-position safety not only makes operations safer, but its quiet movements are a boon for stealthy hunters in the field. The 6.5 Creedmoor rifle holds four rounds in the steel dropbox magazine while rubberized grip panels at both the forend and pistol grip are practical additions for hunters in adverse conditions. High Country rifles come sans iron sights but are drilled and tapped for scope mounting — which I did using Weaver Six-Screw rings and a new Bushnell optic. The Timberline’s receiver and barrel feature a Cerakote O.D. Green finish that looks good alongside the rifle’s synthetic stock in Realtree Excape camo.

Recoil was manageable with or without the Kahntrol brake, as we were able to spot nearly all of our rounds impacting the 100-yd. Throughout our testing feeding was flawless, and bolt operation was quick and smooth. One of the more notable developments in the rifle world was the Savage Accu-Trigger, which allows the user to adjust the pull weight with complete safety. It was introduced in 2003 and became standard on nearly all Savage centerfire rifles a year later. In 2009 the Accu-Stock solved the problem of the erratic accuracy inherent with the flimsy plastic stocks used on many models.

The fact that it headspaces of the belt has absolutely nothing to do with what you can achieve accuracy wise. I’ve got multiple, nearly stock rifles in 7mm & 300 that are consistently 1/2 MOA; without serious modifications. If you are set on one of those 2 cartridges it’s still a great foundation.

Mag., including the 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, .270 Win, .280 Ackley Improved, 7mm-08 Rem, 7mm Rem. This spectrum covers just about everything you’d want to hunt in North America and most of what you’d be after abroad. All barrel lengths come in either 22 or 24″ trim, depending on caliber. To be honest, I wanted to try several of these options but finally settled on the .308 Win. Savage’s long-overdue overhaul of a platform that’s been with us since 1958 is not just change for change’s sake but a real upgrade worth investigating.

Savage Arms included a factory cerekote finish on it’s spiral-fluted barrel and bolt. The dark bronze finish gives it a custom look while adding additional protection to the action and barrel in harsh weather conditions. When you pair this with the TrueTimber Strata synthetic stock with overmold surfaces, the rifle is a sight to behold.

In addition to it being super easy to change barrels, the floating bolt head basically eliminates the need to blueprint the action as you would on the 700, yet gives you the benefits. Eliminating the need to spend several hundred dollars on a blueprinting service. This one of the things that helps them tend to be more accurate. Wow, based on your advice, I wonder how so many people are able to create accurate long range hunting rigs in 7mm Rem Mag and 300 Win Mag?

If you plan on the $800 build, then I wouldn’t spend $464 on that rifle. You want to find the cheapest action for the build if that is your path. Look for a Stevens 200 and save some green.

Personally I have only found a few factory ammo loads that shoot like sub moa ammo. Regardless of use if you get a good ballistic tip bullet with a boat tail design then your accuracy will be just as good. I have a 7mm Rem Mag and shoot 1/4 moa or less with ballistic tip hunting rounds . Point being match grade stuff is nothing short of catch phrase.

Ruger No. 1 Single-Shot Rifle: Tips to Improve Its Accuracy

Known for delivering excellent accuracy and value from its rifles, and one of its most popular components is the Accutrigger system. User-adjustable for pull weight, the Accutrigger enhances safety thanks to the Accurelease blade, and is capable of providing a very crisp, clean break that facilitates precise shot placement. The 110 Storm is also build for consistent accuracy, and utilizes Savage’s Accustock to ensure the action is firmly and securely bedded. A spiral fluted bolt and barrel are classy touches that go beyond the aesthetic to both shave weight and aid in heat dissipation. The True Timber Strata camouflaged stock makes use of the adjustable AccuFit system for both comb and LOP customization. Savage’s AccuTrigger is user-adjustable, and the AccuStock means there’s an internal chassis supporting the action for impressive factory performance and downrange accuracy.

SOOOO packed up, moved everything up to 50 yards. I shot a savage in 270 and its a pretty decent gun. Another kind of natural terrain also dotted the Lakota land, not resulting from the impact of wind and water. Scattered across the grass were dusty divots that defined the presence of prairie dogs. The towns stretched over hills and to the horizon, and they’re everywhere. They sprawl across fenced-in fields and through people’s backyards.

Surely by now you’ve heard of the latter—the much-copied adjustable trigger with a safety lever in the shoe that is part of a system that allows incredibly light pulls without sacrificing safety. It’s a terrific trigger, and on my sample the pull weighed two pounds, 10 ounces on average—right out of the box. This new stock also comes with four spacers to permit length-of-pull adjustment. Recognizing this, the designers at Savage have come up with a relatively hassle-free way to tailor a stock to your body and the way you shoot.

Also, there is a healthy gap between the barrel channel and the stock. This is not “sloppy fit”; it’s a clever design feature. I couldn’t press the fore-end tip against the barrel, so the stock does not flex and touch the barrel when fired. This is especially important for good accuracy in a powerful cartridge like the .300 Win. One I built on a Argentine mauser the other is a ruger 77with a Winchester laradeo barrel. The stock is tight, the rifle is properly bedded, and the trigger is adjusted correctly.
