While I was at it I took off the door sill and popped out the rear trim on the side. There are two plastic screws on there you have to take off . Once you get those off you just pull out and the whole panel comes right out.

I had to dig my straps out, they were tucked in. In my 2008 coupe I didn’t even know the back seats folded down until I pulled them out to install my leather covers. They sell a really cool modified fold down system that incorporates sub woofers in the rear panel and one piece headliner and side panels.

Ford resurrects Vignale name in an attempt to add premiumness to mainstream models

I would recommend to not weld anything in place until the full system is assembled, tested and adjusted. Only then will it be obvious where all these parts are supposed to go. The interior must be removed to do this conversion along with the rear window. Wish me luck guys, I’ve started on the long road of a Fold down seat converstion in my ’72 Mustang. I’m hoping to do a series of pictures to help illustrate to others whats involved when doing this conversion as I remember other people asking in the past about converting their cars. I found there is really very little information on the internet about the conversion on 71-73, so hopefully this will answer some people’s questions.

That is interesting, I would think a Marti Report would indicate if the car had the optional fold down rear seat. Hope this has been informative. This concludes this guide on the fold down seat convertion, I will be posting more pics later once the new intior panels and upholstery have been fitted.

Folddown Seat, Trim & Bumpers

The 2007 Mustang’s trunk is not that big compared to a hatchback so it would be ideal to have the back seats drop so the trunk/storage space becomes much bigger. Plus you will have to repaint all the interior panels the correct Mach 1 interior color. Oh and here’s a pic of what it looks like without the rear seat frames in place… Here’s the rear frame section you’ll need. The crossmember gets welded to the floor, then the vertical frames get welded to that, the wheel house and the lower rear window glass frame. You need to get this from the donor car those pars came from, if possible.

The upper rear trim is shorter vertically, so you need that too. I also wire brushed and reshot every part — bracing for pedals, pedal and clutch assembly, brakets — everything. Mostly used Eastwoods Detail Gray and Spray Gray, plus the Krylon gloss black. I tried to keep the colors as they were originally. I cleaned the wiring harness , and scruubbed down the dash and steering column with a gray scotchbrite.

Mine has the fold down seat but the Marti report doesn’t spell it out. 3) Yes, went to Mr. Gs in Fort Worth, Texas and “traded” in my dash bezel, glove box door, glove box bezel for reworked ones. But, I felt the quality was really nice, and the pieces were better than my originals. I’m glad I came across this thread. I don’t have a Mustang yet but I am looking to buy a 2007 V6 Mustang, non convertible. I was at the used car dealership and the dealer didn’t know how to drop the backseats, he said it doesn’t drop because it’s a sports car. So now I’m here to get to the bottom of this.

I guess someone transplanted a fold down into my Mach 1 sometime along the the line as the Marti report doesn’t show that as an option. If I were to ever do this again I would put in the new kit sold by ” Mustangstofear”. Ford is resurrecting the name of renowned Italian design house Vignale in an attempt to bring its mainstream models up market in Europe. Of course this isn’t Ford’s first experience of using a defunct carrozzeria for its range-topping models – remember Ghia? The first of these new models will be the Mondeo, which will appear with Vignale badging, lashings of chrome and quilted leather in Frankfurt next week.

I don’t want teach experienced car restorers how to suck eggs but I want to show the inexperienced how to go about removing this panel should anyone want to try a conversion. The toughest part was the crappy firewall insulation pad. Its is not now so obvious where the remaining parts have to go, as stated previously the best way to find out is to assemble the entire system and see where it all lines up. This next picture shows the location of the seat latch bracket and seat hinge points. The floor pan does have a large recess for these seat hinge brackets and it can be noted that on my car these brackets fitted pretty centrally in these recesses. My rear seats fold down with levers you pull up that are located near the rear speakers. You lift the lever and pull the seat down.

I was wondering if the factory installed the fold down seat mounting brackets on the non optioned cars. The green car in the pic above was torn down to what you see and I reassembled it from there. I used to run around with the rear seat down all the time, I liked the look and it was a secure storage space. It’s alot easier to install the rear window in a fold down car than a fixed seat, that’s for sure. By blue 71 in my sig is a fixed rear seat car, I have all the parts to do it, just haven’t felt like it yet.
