Then just lift the dashboard assembly up, and walk to the other side across the cabin. The plastic box under the dashboard, right in the middle of the center tunnel, is a “Airbag sensor box” of some sorts. If you have a center console, remove that as well.
It can happen to any vehicle, at any age or mileage. Getting it unstuck can be easy, but also a little dangerous since you’ll need to rock the vehicle. The best way to rock it is from the driver’s seat.

Correct Name Of The Display Unit
So the handle does not pull the latch anymore. It will snap on to it, but it’s not strong enough to hold it. Doesn’t appear to be something I can fix. Access to that part looks very limited. It does look like it’s a piece that can be replaced though. There’s two screws and that might hold it in.

You will need to find it for your particular model year of Ram . A618/47RH-RE for heavy duty use behind the V10 gasoline and Cummins diesel engines. The 47RH was used in 1994 and 1995 model years, while the 47RE was used from 1996 through 2002.
These include checking to see if the parking brake is stuck, finding the shift lock solenoid override , and the shift linkage. The sensor is for the temperature display. If it is unplugged or there’s a cut wire, it will say “OC” for “open circuit”, but it will still light up. Start by checking for 12 volts on any wires in the unit’s connector with the ignition switch off. I seem to recall there should be none, but there might be one. Next, check if there’s 12 volts on any other wires with the ignition switch in the “run” position.

Swap it out, removing some of the lower dash pieces like cup holders, and get a tray out of a HD model, and you’ll be golden. All five hold the upper dashboard to the firewall. Remove the seats, as it will be three times easier to work in there.

There’s a ton of little screws in there…start looking for the loose ones. Lift the rubber mats where you see the blue tape, it marks the 3 screws that holds the upper part of the console in place. I drew a diagram of the connector to show the wires to test, . The closest I have is a ’98 service manual but it should be the same. Been to the dealer 8/18,9/2,9/9 and 9/16. They are now going to order the bottom of the console as the unit thinks the car is still locked. I even handed them the tsb on the first visit. 3rd visit they replaced the lid, 4th visit they adjusted the locking mechanism.

Will take a stab at it tonight and see what I get. The ambient temperature sensor wire harness connector. If this is what happened to your Ram, it is good news since it’s pretty easy to fix. This happens a lot when you don’t use a parking brake on a hill.

Duck- all you will need to do is take out the flip cupholders and the side panels with the cig plugs on your current set up. The center radio bezel will also need to be removed and replaced with the longer version.
Brakes
I think some cars might have an ill fitted spring causing it to get truly and well stuck. I gave them the TSB , but they replaced the lid anyway. My advice, get them to do the TSB.
Center Console Won’t Open
In this next picture, all the nuts to be removed on the engine bay side are highlighted – a total of four on engine-bay side. In order to completely take the dashboard out of the vehicle, you need to clear the steering wheel. The center one, and the ones at the ends go through that upper dashboard panel, through dashboard’s metal frame, and then to the firewall. Because my dashboard was all broken up, I just removed the pieces.
