Just don’t feel like doing that to the runner, cant say why but it just feels wrong to hack on it but the taco was a truck so I wouldn’t think twice about hacking on it if it came out looking nice. So Tacoma hood, fenders, grille, and headlights. Tacoma’s don’t have gas shock supports for the hood so that will need fabricated too. Not sure how they latch so hood pins will probably be necessary.
Also, put something underneath where the bumper is going to be sitting in case it slips before you have it secured. Putting on the bracket that was attached to the bottom of the headlight assembly I had to ream out the bottom mounting hole, it was a little small for some reason. Gently move the headlight assembly forward so that you can disconnect the parking light on the side that you were unable to reach before. Set the bumper assembly aside, gently.

So it may be possible that the x runner has a different oil pan. Ether way, the engine parts from your original motor will likely exchange perfectly. I have looked at all 17 pages of topics on this forum and seem to be seeing different answers on different posts as to whether or not the 1GRFE from a Tundra or Tacoma from the same generation will work. I do like the idea of possibly using a tundra diff if it’s narrow enough. Too wide and you’ll run into angle and plunge issues.
If I can find a diff from a Tundra, I’ll try that conversion. Years ago I saw someone cram a front diff from a new Tundra into a 3rd gen 4Runner. But I’ve never been able to find the thread. Last time I saw tha.skid.kid’s page it looked like a paper mache project. 4thgenmike’s is very well done though.

I mean why would there be different engine parts? Staring at things, I finally notice the difference. I have a runner with the 4L 1grfe v6 engine that I am attempting to resurrect. I’m excited about moving to a 4runner, but I’ll miss the cement color. Certainly not going to pay the double premium for a pro AND cement.
@36tacundra, I really appreciate being able to leverage off of your knowledge and experience here, and not having to repeat the often lengthy and frustrating process of “figuring it out”. As I see it, this is one of the main purposes for these forums…. Hopefully this thread will keep helping others besides myself as well. Changing the variable cam heads was easy. The two weeks trying to figure out the sporadic spark was a pain in the A. I changed the computer, messed with the coils, and finally went to check the timing.
Whoever in Denver owns this 4th gen with a Tacoma front end swap, can we be friends?
Line up the center piece and push it in place. Install the 10mm bolt on the tire side to secure it in place. The second bolt that came out of the original one can’t go in until you have the headlight in place. I’ve never had to change an ECU unless I am changing the type or generation of the motor and/or the transmission . I saw and read a lot about Tacoma seat conversions and different ways like swapping rails to re-drilling holes and making your own adapters to fit all sorts of seats from whatever. I also saw the front foot replacements for using 3rd gen 4runner seats.
I still really liked the look of the 2014+. I came across a post of someone that had done a 2014+ swap and the thought that I could do this to mine took over. I started a parts list to figure out cost and as I started adding up everything I realized my dream would probably never come true.
d or 4th gen
Hoods easy, everything else will require a lot of modification. Essentially it will be exactly the same amount of work as a 12 and newer conversion. All products intended for Off-Road use. Prices subject to change without notice.
When looking for a 4Runner the 2014+ SR5/Trail front end always appealed to me. Unfortunately, the features I was looking for were only available on the Limited model which still did not have the front end I desired. Because money was a factor I ended up in a 2010 Limited that had everything I was looking for. Do a search here or on yotatech.com or on 4x4wire for starters. I did the 3.4 swap and am happy with it. I believe that u are incorrect in the statement that the 2019 uses the same cab and chassis.
Tacoma Front end Swap on 4th gen?
Put your desired bulbs into new headlight assembly if you haven’t already. The low beam comes pre wired to a plug that you do not have. Simply unclip the connector, take off the housing cover, unclip it from the bulb, and pull out the grommet.
And on IFS, I doubt that a D60 would ever be practical due to its massive size and weight. Looks just like a front end was swapped to a tacoma front end. Dang the problem now is, I can’t un-see that. I’ll never look at a 4th gen the same. If you are good with fab work it will probably be ok but im pretty sure it will not be a direct bolt on.

I am doing the conversion on my 2010 but have a little trouble with the headlights. Any way you can send me some info or pictures on how you did yours? Im doing my conversion 2010 to 2014+ and am having trouble with the headlights. Any way you can send some pictures of how you made yours work?
Thank you for the detailed step by step project with pictures. If you plan to do a hybrid bumper at the same time you will not need the bumper rail or the extensions. Kelyn – Assuming we are close enough to make the trade when I make my purchase and you have not already found someone else by that time, I will be interested. Seeing as I am after the 2020 to do this conversion on it could be a while before I am able to make such a trade.

Make sure you plug in your fog lights if you haven’t already. With a larger screwdriver/ trim tool go back to each Fender and push the black plastic Clips off the fender. Replacement toy engines are damn expensive, and then I’m only getting 150HP under the hood again. I’d like to upgrade my 31×10.5’s to 33 or 35’s, not gonna happen with stock engine. Oh, there really aren’t any mods you can do to the 3VZE that will get you any appreciable HP. Wondering if anyone has knowledge on engine swap possiblities for a 4Runner..

While many of the dimensions are similar, the interior has a full redesign as does the frame . So While anything can be done, I’m not sure it would be anywhere near a bolt in situation and def would cost a fortune. I’m all for swapping parts over between generations but the amount of work and cost that appears to be required just isn’t worth it I think. And like I said, this is in theory possible to do, but probably not easy in any way. I have a 2013 Ram R/T and I’m all about modding, given the chance I’d try to do the swap to my truck, since 2019+ Ram R/T don’t exists it could make it a very unique truck. In theory with some tinkering it should be possible to get the 2500 HD front from a 2019+ ram front onto a 4th gen 1500 ram truck, since the body lines and all the goodies will match up.
