Minn Kota Spot Lock Turning Off

6 min read

Once a location is selected, the current location of the boat becomes the To Start location of the iTrack being recorded. Use the Menu Up and Menu Down buttons to scroll to one of the iTrack memory locations. Use the Menu Up and Menu Down buttons to select one of the Spot-Lock memory locations. Press the Left Softkey to Save the Spot-Lock into the selected memory location. Displays when the softkey labels at the bottom of the display screen have more options available. On the other side of the story, people have encountered some issues like deploy or stow problems.

But if any wire or connecting terminal looks severely damaged because of the excessive corrosion, immediately replace those parts. If that is the case, you need to inspect your motor battery voltage with the voltmeter. The correct voltmeter reading of proper battery voltage is between 12.4 and 13.8 volts, which indicates that the battery is freshly charged. If the voltage power indicates that low or no charge is the problem, you just have to recharge it properly. So, connect your battery with the charger, and when the charging complete, again check the voltage. It should be okay now, but if the battery is damaged, you need to replace it.

Underpowered or overpowered trolling motor

If your trolling motor is underpowered for your boat weight, increase boat scale to +1 or +2, and if it is overpowered for your boat weight, decrease boat scale to -1 or -2. Another common issue is that the Minn Kota I Pilot remote will lose its connection with the trolling motor. This can be caused by interference from other electronic devices, so make sure to keep your remote away from cell phones, tablets, etc. The second is that there may be something wrong with the connection between the remote control and the trolling motor. Try wiggling the wires and seeing if that does anything.

I am hoping someone out there has run into this problem and been able to resolve it. Hi, I too have has an issue with loosing the gps anchor but I have a Motorguide. What I found was one of the trolling motor batteries was weak. Yes they were charged up and powered the boat on it’s way but the anchor gps would not stay engaged. It would be fine then release for lack of a better word then re-engage again.

Weeds wrapped around propeller

I have had it lose anchor lock one time, in a very strong current at Ponce Inlet. I believe the TM was running as hard as it could and at times could not hold in a swift outflowing tidal current. Once the unit moves a certain distance away from the anchor-locked position, it shuts the function off.

I’ve Heard leaving it plugged in when you plug it into the charger may cause a problem. You might wanna get in the habit of flipping the breaker before you plug it in. Cleaned all battery connections and checked battery voltage which read like 25.6v at the breaker. I just came off the lake and had the same problem.

Spot lock keeps turning off

I may not notice subtle bites, or even generate as many bites because I’m too busy running the trolling motor. And the other common issues are already mentioned earlier with the possible solutions. A small group of Terrova 80 trolling motor users claimed that the motor unit sometimes does not steer but runs. Remember, loose wing nuts carry electricity, which means they can cause a short circuit or firing exposure as well.

If they do, then try unplugging and replugging the power cord to the I-Pilot head unit. This will reset the system and may fix the problem. First, make sure that you are using fresh batteries in your remote. Sometimes, old batteries can cause this problem. If you are using fresh batteries and the problem persists, try resetting your Minn Kota I Pilot Motor. If you DO NOT have access under the mounting location, follow the same steps as above.

Common Problems With Minn Kota Terrova 80 Trolling Motor

It is one of the most common technical problems with any electric trolling motor, but the good news is you can fix the problem easily and quickly as well. The Minn Kota Terrova 80 is built with advanced cutting-edge technology and allows users to enjoy their fishing adventure without worrying about current or wind. I wouldn’t think replacing a battery would cause you the need to re calibrate.

Right now Im at 12.8V and took it off the charger 4 hours ago. Thought I was safe just tripping the inline circuit breaker, surge ran down the negative wire causing the problem. I will try to clean the receptacles and see if that helps.

This can happen if you are using spot lock and the trolling motor needs to run the speed up high. I finally got a chance to get back on the boat and changed out the battery in the iPilot remote. I also unplugged the Marineco plug and found the prongs had some green material on them. I wiped that off and the motor seemed to work fine as I chased False Albacore off Craigville Beach on Cape Cod.

When the heading sensor is properly paired, and normal operations occur, the light will flash on and off once every three seconds. Instead, make sure the arrow sensor is pointed toward the front of the boat and parallel with the boat’s keel. There are two notches on the heading sensor that will allow the power cable to pass out one of the sensor’s sides. If the motor makes a correction it will do so at a speed to compensate for the wind or current. Mine sometimes will kick into high in windy or heavy current conditions. The ability to focus solely on lure presentation is another huge advantage.

MINN KOTA I-Pilot User Guide

A worst case scenario occurred to me in a tournament last year when my boat drifted up over the top of a school and completely killed a frenzy. It turned out that I was eight ounces from winning the event. Carefully insert the new one in and move the pedal’s head left, right. Then test the unit and speed control’s response by running it through the entire speed range of your motor.

Spot-lock or anchor is the most important feature I’m looking at. I think I’m going to use this as the #1 feature to start the search. I never notice what power level it is on but it surely does not jerk. I do not recall it being full power since it would take you past the spot you locked.

The latest firmware i-Pilot remote usually resolves the problem

It can happen when the steering lock’s collar depth does not engage with the steering motor properly. Therefore, check all the wing nuts connections and if required tighten the nuts enough to secure the motor and battery connection. According to a group of customers, they have experienced that sometimes the propeller starts acting unusual, especially when they change the speed.

Minn Kota Spot-Lock — Trolling Motor Anchor

On a boat your size or probably wouldn’t make a difference but for someone who has a smaller bass boat, it’s more than likely a deal breaker. I just recently upgraded to MG Xi5 in 36v from 24v and its a significant difference in power & ability especially spot locking. I have to stay with MG because it links to my Lowrance unit and this is integral to the way I fish both inland and Great Lakes.
