Channel Catfish are very abundant from 10.5- to 18-inches and good numbers of 21-to 30-inch fish. The muskie population continues to build since the fish barrier installation that has prevented them from leaving the lake over the spillway. Muskie densities are nearing management goals after a severe crash in 2008. 2021 fish surveys showed a good distribution of Largemouth Bass sizes from 8- to 18-inches. There is a fair population of Smallmouth Bass found mostly in the lower half of the lake with sizes surveyed between 9 and 14.5-inches. Bluegills are topping out around 8 inches with most of the population being between 4 and 6-inches.

Warmwater fishing will likely be the main game here by mid-summer, as these shallow reservoirs get pretty warm for trout to feed very actively. Most trout will likely be fished out by the end of June anyway, but you might pick up a rainbow or two. Some largemouth bass and sunfish also are in the reservoirs, but these are of mostly modest interest to most anglers.

Two boat ramps are provided for the convenience of boaters and anglers. A significant amount of flooded brush still exists in the reservoir from the period when it was lowered to make repairs to the dam. This material exists from the full pool elevation of 576 feet down to the winter pool elevation of 566 feet , and is abundant on the flats in the upper half of the reservoir. It provides excellent nursery habitat for young-of-year fishes and provides structure to which adult fishes are attracted. Stocked fish are legal-sized rainbow trout unless otherwise noted.

You’re likely to catch perch, catfish and probably any fish commonly found in these lakes with a worm fished on or near the bottom. During that period, trout catches will be excellent at these reservoirs, located in the Agate Beach area on the north side of town. The lakes are an easy drive from anywhere in Newport and not bad on a bike, either. Big Creek Reservoirs in Newport offer excellent early-season fishing for stocked rainbow trout, plus a modest fishery for perch, catfish and bass. Bear Creek Reservoir, also known as Big Bear, was impounded in 1969. It holds 670 acres of water at full pool and is lowered ten feet during the winter.

You can find crappie in feet of water in the creek channels. Look for good structure like trees and weeds with your depth finder. You can fill up your cooler if your patient and find the right spot. You might even catch a few bass doing the same thing. The closest town is Walden, Colorado, about 35 miles from the campsite.

Each of these campgrounds has a public access area for launching boats. A BCDA fishing permit is required in addition to Alabama state fishing license requirements. Pre-impoundment topographic maps are available through the TVA. Whether you’re baitcasting, spinning or fly fishing your chances of getting a bite here are good.

Based on recent sampling by the Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division, the largemouth bass fishery appears to be strong. Age-3 bass are abundant and reach nearly 14 inches in length. Bass up to 22 inches and weighing 5.5 pounds were present in the electrofishing sample conducted in 2012.

These are similar-sized reservoirs, the biggest of which is 20 acres, and impound the waters of Big Creek to provide municipal water supplies for the area. Located entirely in Mobile County in Alabama, Warrior Lake is close to Mobile and surround suburbs. The lake is only 11 miles from Mobile Regional Airport. The lake also is very near Mobile Bay and access to the Gulf of Mexico. Nice fish, but I have not caught much in the Mobile Bay. As of January 26 Big Creek Lake ice was 14 inches thick.

Crappie are caught in brush tops or suspended above the old creek channel and can be enticed to bite jigs or minnows. Reports are that the bass and crappie fishing have been the best within recent years at Big Creek Lake. Anglers have access to only one bait shop, but the proximity to Mobile provides other opportunities for tackle and other fishing services.

Located approximately 20 miles southwest of Russellville in Franklin County, it is one of four Tennessee Valley Authority reservoirs operated by the Bear Creek Development Authority . The primary uses of this reservoir are flood control, recreation, and water supply. While bank fishing predominates here, some anglers launch small human-powered craft including float tubes. No motors are allowed to help preserve water quality.
