I’m talking with a local fabricator who has built several similar tire carriers. He is looking at the design to see if it can be built to still allow partial function of the backup camera, and also allow view of the license plate. He has done excellent work for me before, so if he thinks he can do it, I’ll have him build me one. 4.5″ of clearance required from center of hitch pin hole rearward for it to be compliant with wedge lock system.
Easier on all the components, and easier to manage opening and closing the carrier. As long as the swing and ladder are on opposite sides of the vehicle it should not be a problem. You can’t run a hatch ladder and a swing on the same side however. It really depends on the vehicle model of bumper you are attaching this carrier to. In our experience it usually does not however on most vehicles. You just have to give it a push back instead of lifting it up.

Let me say that the price is justified in my opinion. Between the customer service before and after the sale as well as the overall quality of this piece, I am very impressed. This thing is a beast and comes in at around 55 lbs. To test it after assembly and installation I sat on it just to see what I could expect. My generator fully fueled comes in at 248lbs and after some figuring and planning, I got it mounted up. I purchased this unit to carry my 7kw generator to and from the job site. Most other options out there weren’t weight-rated for what I needed. Id say the most important thing is to keep your max tongue weight in mind. I believe the max for a Subi is 300 lbs but you should check your manual to confirm.. The weight of my setup is 145 lbs with tire and the mount assembly. I wanted to double check this because I am planning on mounting a gas tank to the backside along with a trasharoo on the front. However, Id imagine that your spare tire will not weigh the same as mine unless your running 31″ tires on it. What is the clearance from the back of the adventure carrier to the hatch?

I saw these guys at the Overland Expo West in AZ earlier this year. I thought that their products were very well built, they had high quality powder coat and they were very stylish. I’m seriously considering this option for my Land Cruiser vice a full rear swing out bumper.
