I’m looking at adding a graph to my Topwater 120, and I’m wondering if anyone has used the pre drilled transducer mount for a side scan transducer. The boat is still stable even when the user is leaning quite heavily to one side, which is an impressive quality when compared to most kayaks. While paddling in wind and choppy water, the maneuverability of the Old Town Topwater 106 remains more or less unaffected. Since it is just 10’ 6” it is still fairly responsive to each paddle stroke.
It’s more capable of handling ocean swells than its little brother, and while it does come at a higher cost, it’s better for those that will be spending time on saltwater. If it becomes too much of an issue for you, it’s easy to add a little extra padding. If you’re set on SI, you’re probably better off with an arm mount for the transducer so you can pull it in shallow water to prevent damage. The hull appears to be the same as the Topwater series (don’t quote me on that) but they feature some upgrades which you can see in the clip below. People have complained that the seat in the Topwater isn’t comfortable. Unfortunately, as seat comfort is very subjective it’s hard to tell whether it would suit you or not untill you sit in it yourself. Most either used a cushion or upgraded therefore if it’s likely to be a concern then I would recommend going for a seat upgrade.
