Sunt pistoanele Speed Pro bune

I am contemplating much more compression for the next 351. For that, I was going with KB hypers in the the 11 to 1 range. I was just going to get the bearings and gaskets in a minimal-type rebuild kit. My EFI setup is such a torque oriented assembly that I should have opted for the higher compression on the other motor. If you are carbed, you can spin it higher without the need to replace expensive intakes and burn chips. I take it from your name that you are carbed.

I say go to E-Bay and you’ll find what you need and probably very cheap. Those are also a “rebuilder” style piston, and as such, probably have .020 off the tops to compensate for block decking/head milling when rebuilding short/long blocks. I like the appearence of the Speed Pro/Federal Mogul piston more than the Silvolite/Keith Black piston and they cost less to boot. I hear Silvolite/Keith Black are also made off shore now.

455ci Stock-Type Pistons, .030″ Overbore Piston Dia.: 4.342″

I always step up and purchase speed-pro, hastings or perfect circle Moly rings. They are good quality for stock or mild performance rebuilds. I never had a problem with either of these brands.

Alot of guys running fast w/ the stock cast piston. I really dont think initial clearance is all that important. Once the piston is up to running temperature the clearance tightens up due to expansion. Different pistons expand more due to material and skirt design, but I bet they all end up at about the same running clearance.

And it has NOTHING to do with the strength of the material itself. It has to do with the way the pistons manage HEAT. Detonation throws a LOT of heat at the top of the piston very quickly. Forged pistons carry it away into the lower end of the piston very quickly.

I have used these pistons as replacement pistons in numerous rebuilds with no issue. Remember that if the Cylinder is bored say .030 in order to true the bore , due to the increased volume, this will also raise the compression slightly. KB hyperutectics are not fragile, that’s a wives tale. I’ve seen guys use light shots of nitrous for years on them and never have problems.

Sealed Power

I’m not familiar with that line of cams, but, I would think they’d be a bit milder for the off-roading crowd. Regaurdless of what you use (hyper/forged) you will want to tune for ZERO detonation. My opinion is that Speed-Pro pistons are about as cheapo a forged piston as you can get. •Fully CNC machined domes and valve reliefs for perfect fit. Cast pistons work quite well, Siv-O-lite, Badger and a few others are good for rebuilds and mild street/strip use.

When it comes to valve train components, camshafts, and double roller timing sets, Speed Pro has you covered. Speed Pro offers stock type replacements, to all out racing components for most popular engines. Also available from Sealed Power are stock replacement type cast pistons. Depends on what your doing with the motor when your talking forged vs cast. Fact of the matter, if it’s a hydro cam street motor that isn’t spun to 5k + all the time, save your money and use cast.

Pontiac 400 +0.040 Pistons

They are a rugged piston that will take a beating, but there are others out there for slightly more money and significantly less weight. The Wiseco’s and Speed Pro forged mentioned above are all under 500 g each. Ive only heard good things about them and only want to hear good things because i just bought a set for my 396 im building. Hoping to only hear good things here too. As I said – this is all “moot” if you’re going power-adder, but if not you should search on the subject – save money and have a slightly quicker reving motor to boot…

And I forgot to mention that all the single pistons I got in the end were made in USA. They did send a couple that were from india but they went back. This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread.

speed pro forged piston’s

I even baked them in the oven three times and found growth to be amazingly small, and perfect return to cold dimensions. Just checked the set I was planning on using to replace my old KB hypers and yep they have India cast in side. 2) The stock stroke 351W is all I need to get the power level I desire, it also will last, and is not hard on the pistons and bores like a 408, 418, or worst of all 426. I have probably purchased over 100 engine kits from Northern automotive, they have been really good to deal with and very reasonable on their engine kits. The word is, Speed Pro, aka Federal Mogul pistons, are now made “off shore”, like in India now. That part number is also for SBC 350 engines.

Speed pro hyper pistons ok for circle track?

There are SRP, JE, KB, Speed Pro, etc…. I have used this product through the years with good results in my budge turbo Buick engines. I like the coated skirts for scuff resistance. Since these are a heavy piston for the higher output engines I prefer the C/P brand but they are way more costly. I ordered these on recommendation of my machinist. He also told me they checked out very well, as you’d expect for such a precision part.

Speed Pro Pistons Speedpro Performance Engine Parts

Speed-Pro developed powerforged pistons and set the pace in powerforged technology. The high silicon VMS-75 alloy is found exclusively in pistons ? True, but they were far from ordinary run of the mill cast pistons. A point that a lot of people either forget or didn’t know. Do you have any way to accurately measure the distance from the top of the piston to the top edge of the piston pin bore?

Pistons

If you have DOVE’s and D3’s you have a bad mismatch. I can see you missing the DOVES and D3”s on a quick Visual inspection of the chambers, more then the D2VE’s between the three. This changes things quite a bit if you had one DOVE head. If the both have pedestal slot type rockers they are not DOVE’s. You have 100 Octane in Aussieland I believe at the pump?
