There are a variety of camping options in the area, from RV parks in Manitou Springs to dispersed campsites on public lands. The Rampart Range Road camping area is located northwest of Garden of the Gods and accessed via the town of Woodland Park. This is a fairly convenient place to dispersed camp as youll be close to services as well as the park. Most sites along the road enjoy excellent views and there are even a few fire rings available for your use. These parks are suitable for a range of campers and amenities.
The site is open year-round and offers water and a vault toilet. All of the campsites are level and feature a fire ring, grill, and picnic table. This camp is perfect for those hoping to explore the 160-mile River-to-River Trail, which can be accessed from the trailhead just north of the campground. Camping for free is known asdispersed camping,i.e., you can camp in approved areas besides the commercial campgrounds.
When I was waiting in line at the office, one staff complain about a guests comments after she hung up the phone not caring that me and another guests were listening. Primitive camping is allowed in the Shawnee National Forest with the exception of developed recreation areas, natural areas, along lake shores, near streams or on trails. Equestrian users are prohibited from camping in designated wilderness areas. Primitive camping outside of recreation areas is free and is allowed any time of year. Do not trespass on private land and do not cut down live trees, shrubs or other vegetation.

Tent
That’s a big deal because on a busy day it’s almost impossible to find a place to park. But when you’re ready to see other local attractions like Pikes Peak, Cave of the Winds, or Seven Falls, you won’t have far to drive. We stayed three nights, and total cost was around $90.
There are a few opportunities to pitch a tent in town, but they are few. If you prefer camping in secluded, less crowded spots, you’ll love this area. The 12 dispersed campsites include access to fire rings and vault toilets.

Hooks appeared to have been pulled out of walls and not repaired. The Wifi didn’t really work and appeared to be overloaded most of the time. In my option $ would have fixed the bathrooms up and made a huge improvement but just having some benches in the shower staff and new hooks. You could easily bike to the Gardens of the Gods park from the campground. The campground is very clean, the site shaded and level. The only negative, the sites were a little snug, but we had good neighbors.
Dispersed camping is the only option at Mt. Herman, so please respect the Leave No Trace principles. As there are no restroom facilities along the trails and no drinking water in the area, you’ll need to come prepared with plenty of water and pack out your trash and waste. Lone Duck Reservoirin Green Mountain Falls is closer to Garden of the Gods. And, from Seven Falls, you can head back up North Cheyenne Canon Park and downGold Camp Roadto get back to Manitou Springs. It is a gravel road, but has some great views and a few tunnels.
Rhode Island State Park Camping
There are several places to camp near Divide and Cripple Creek, with Mueller State Park our favorite, conveniently located between the two towns. Still, youll wake up to see youre at the foot of Pikes Peak near Old Colorado City and Manitou Springs, only minutes from Garden of the Gods. Its a great option if you want to camp really close to the Garden of the Gods while having access to modern amenities. Located west of Colorado Springs, the Lone Duck Campground is approximately 20 minutes from Garden of the Gods.

Campers at Pine Hills can take Pine Hills Road to the top of the bluffs which offers a beautiful panorama of the LaRue Swamp and Mississippi River Floodplain. To get to the campground from Jonesboro, take Illinois 146 west to Route 127 North, then go north three miles to the State Forest blacktop road. Turn west and travel 9 miles to FR236 or Pine Hills Road. The campground is .07 miles north on Pine Hills road.
This was the worst RV park of our entire road trip around Colorado. Then, great rivers carried sand and mud to the sea, where it settled along the. The campground has 20 non-reservable sites at $10 a night. Although not in the Shawnee National Forest, the Rosiclare Campground, settled on the banks of the Ohio River, has 12 riverside sites perfect for campers, RVs, or tents. Each site has water and electric hook-ups at both 50 and 30 amps.

Traveling in a 38 foot coach we stayed 4 nights in a site for big rigs. Even tho it is all grave the Garden of the Gardens RV Resort is a very clean and friendly rv park. We have a 37 foot rv with an attached toad in a pull-thru.
The Crags Campground doesn’t take reservations, so the 17 campsites are available on a first come, first served basis. It’s a secluded campground and most visitors are just here for the hiking, so there’s no need to worry about running out of campsites. The Crags Campground is located just south of the town of Divide, a few miles away from the summit of Pikes Peak. The proximity to America’s Mountain makes this an excellent choice for peak baggers, and even though it’s a small campground you’ll rarely find it full.
The sites are very close to each other so to make backing tough. There is no grass around, just gravel and asphalt drives. Our site was pretty level, but I see some rigs with their front tires off the ground. We were here last September and the construction is still going on. This wifi doesn’t work and cell phone cover is not much better. The office staff is not much help, they are very good at making excuses versus helping accomodate the guests.
Eleven Mile State Park Campground
Laundry soap vending machine and a coin dispenser are located in the main laundry room. Garden of the Gods is one of our favorite places to visit in Colorado Springs. The awe inspiring red rocks seems to shoot from the ground to soaring heights, with Pikes Peak providing a beautiful background. This public park is a must-see for anyone in the area, and the free admission makes it one of our favorite places to recommend. It’s a feeling that will stay with you even after leaving, enticing you to come back.
You’ll see the scenery everywhere you look, and if it piques your interest, there are plenty of explanatory plaques along the hiking trails that. Campsites are on a high ridge with good views of the surrounding area from the edge. There are a whopping 328 campsites at Eleven Mile State Park, including 52 sites with electrical hookups for RVs.
